The foundation of APHC

Offering Education and Entertainment to all!

Pony Club originated in Great Britain, 1929 encouraging young children to learn to ride and enjoy many other horse related sports. Since Australia's very first Pony Club formed in NSW in 1952 more and more clubs have popped up all over the country and 29 others.

Victoria's own Pony Clubs developed from the inspiration Margaret Douglas found in reading of NSW's Pony Club. Letters of Margaret's requests for advise on organising a  new Pony Club branch are found to date back to 1944. Her intent to provide children and adults with helpful tuition and organised activity to all riders who had sprung up during the petrol rationing war years. As time passed the idea spread to new people and places which in turn fostered new ideas and innovations while the collective aim of the Pony Club remains - centred around “Education and Entertainment” with Horsemastership being as important as Horsemanship, and that no matter how broken down the horse, how bad the saddler or rider, we welcome them all.
